One of the things we did when we were in New York City was we're able to go to one of the broadway shows. We chose Cyrano starring Kevin Kline and Jennifer Garn which both have an amazing performance. What's weird is seeing Jennifer Garner performing live on stage when I'm used to see her on screen TV or even on the big screen. Either way she's an incredible actress. Too bad we are not allowed to take pictures.
The Plot:
Here is a classic love story, interwoven in tragedy. The story is based on a true incident. It tells about an emotional philosopher and poet and a witted swordsman. He serves as a cadet in the French Army. He falls head over heels for the pretty and strong-willed French socialite called Roxanne. But, due to his big nose, he can not muster up the courage to confess his love to her. Later, Cyrano learns that, Roxanne is in love with the good-looking Christian de Neuvilette, who is a dim-witted comrade. Struck by the harsh reality, Cyrano begins to write love letters and poetry for his beloved Roxanne on Christian’s behalf. After many years, Roxanne finds out the truth.
“Cyrano De Bergarac” is the latest Broadway show. Its previews were held on October 12, 2007 and the opening night is about to take place on November 1. 2007. The show is scheduled to run for only 10 weeks, at the renowned Richard Rodgers theatre. This 1897 classic tale of love has been beautifully translated and adapted by Anthony Burgess, to produce a splendid stage version on Broadway.
Kevin Kline plays the love-struck character. He has a Tony as well as an Academy Award to his credit. Jennifer Garner plays the lovely socialite Roxanne. She has a Golden Globe Award in her bag. Daniel Sunjata plays the dim-witted Christian. He has been nominated for a Tony Award. Besides these awesome actors, the show has Euan morton playing Ligniere, Max Baker in the role of Ragueneau, John Douglas Thompson playing the character of Le Bret, Chris Sarandon as Comte de Guiche, and Concetta Tomei as Roxanne’s Duenna.
Jennifer, who dons the character of the gorgeous French socialite Roxanne, has worked in a number of other Broadway shows; most of them are musical. She clicked with the audience instantly after playing the role of Sydney Bristow in the successful drama series named “Alias.”
Kline, who can be seen as the faithful Cyrano onstage, has been stunning audience onstage for two years on Broadway. He has given an appreciable performance in “Mother Courage and Her Children” as well as “King Lear” in Public. The Broadway show “Cyrano De Bergarac” is his first commercial show on Broadway, since his performance in “On the Twentieth Century, which was released in the year 1978.
David Leveaux has directed the show. Susan Bristow has produced it. The production has the potential to shake the stage with its touching story of love. It is a family entertainer and succeeds to touch your emotional side. If you are fond of love stories, then “Cyrano De Bergarac” is the perfect show for you.
